Starting out

Lately I’ve been reading a friend’s blog. Everyday I turn on my computer and it’s the first thing I read and she’s inspired me - thanks Andi - and so I’ve decided to try my hand at writing a blog. I spent a lot of time overseas and during those years I kept a journal of what I was doing. Since I moved back to the US, I haven’t kept a journal and I just realized that 10 years went by and I don’t really know what happened - so another reason for a blog.
So here goes … I’ve spent a lot of time lately thinking about those years overseas. I spent almost 4 years in Japan as a missionary and English teacher and then I spent two years in Kenya as a Peace Corps Volunteer. I also spent some time backpacking around SE Asia and Australia. I think about all the places I read about as a kid and how I’ve seen so many of them already - but there are so many more that I still want to see.
I have a deal with my friend Andi - she’ll go with me to Brazil down the Amazon River and I’ll go to Africa with her to explore different countries. I’ve been to Africa, Australia, Europe, Asia and all-over North America - I still haven’t been to South America and Antarctica - my husband thinks that I’m a bit nuts, but I grew up with a grandfather who told me that I can do anything I set my mind to. He traveled in over 50 countries before he died - I’ve been in 25 countries and I want to go to even more. I started traveling when I was a baby - my parents took me to Mexico when I was about 1-1/2 years old.
I guess that’s what started the whole travel-the-world thing for me. I settled down for about 10 years - but I want to start traveling again. Fortunately, I do have an indulgent husband who wants to travel a lot too. You know - there’s a saying - the world is my oyster - well I really believe that and I’m looking forward to opening that oyster and seeing what it holds.
